Our status as a Business and Enterprise College enables us to provide your daughter with a wide variety of learning experiences whilst developing enterprise and work related skills. Our goal is to prepare our students to be the next generation of employees and entrepreneurs for the local, national and international economy. We aim to develop the skills and qualities needed to enable them to play an active role as citizens in the 21st century.
In all years Enterprise permeates the curriculum and is evident across all subject areas. At Key Stage 3 students work towards an Enterprise Diploma, an initiative supported by the Portman Building Society. This award encourages and rewards valuable learning opportunities including teamwork, communication and an understanding of personal finance. In addition, there are a wide variety of enterprising activities that take place within lessons and beyond the curriculum which foster an entrepreneurial spirit.
At Key Stage 4 our curriculum reflects our specialist status and we provide a range of up to date and relevant courses suited to individual needs. Students leave Avonbourne confident in ICT and with the qualities and skill valued by both employers and further education. Furthermore there are a number of enhanced curriculum opportunities in Mathematics, Statistics, Business Studies and ICT.
All students participate in a two-week work experience placement during year 10. Students have a huge choice of opportunities with guidance and support before, during and after the placement.
We work closely with our family of schools, parents and other community groups to share our resources and expertise. The school is closely integrated in the Business community and our students benefit greatly from this association.
