The course divides into four main areas (25% each): Listening & Appraising ; Performing ; Composing ; Integrated Assignment
Listening and Appraising (Assessed Externally)
A written paper (1 hr 15mins) based on a number of musical extracts drawing on music from all five Areas of Study
Composing Coursework (Assessed Internally)
A composition based on the Area of Study : Music for Special Events.
Performing Coursework (Assessed Internally)
One solo and one ensemble (group) performance of different pieces of music for an instrument or voice. The music is chosen by the candidate and can be any style or genre.
Integrated Assignment (Assessed Externally)
A composition assignment will be issued at the beginning of November in Year 11 by the exam board (AQA). This composition will be based on one of the Areas of Study excluding Music for Special Events.

- The pop song since 1960
- Film music
- Orchestra Landmarks
