KS3 information
We follow the Dorset Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. Pupils are assessed at the end of each unit of work according to the 8 level scale of National Expectations in RE. Each Assessment Task includes both attainment targets, AT1 Learning About Religion and AT2 Learning From Religion.
As a Business and Enterprise College many of our tasks incorporate enterprise skills such as creativity, innovation, can-do attitude etc. The department is very well resourced with many up to date text books, audio equipment, artefacts and interactive white board.
Students visit the main prayer hall of gurdwara Nanaksar in Southampton as part of their studies of the Sikh religion
All religions are taught as living faiths and we offer the pupils a variety of teaching and learning experiences. For example, every year we take the pupils out on many trips, we visit the Sikh gurdwara in Southampton as part of our module on Sikhism and various churches in our locality as part of our developed module on Christianity. For most pupils this may be the only time in their lives they will have the opportunity of visiting such places. Very often pupils will write up about their visits in the school news letter.

Sikhism 1: Guru Nanak and the five main Beliefs.

Christianity, a developed unit: Christian denominations, plus key concepts such as Incarnation, Crucifixion, Atonement, Resurrection and Holy Spirit.

Relationships and Responsibilities: Love, Commitment and Forgiveness.

Judaism, a developed unit: Torah, Persecution, Anne Frank.

Buddhism: the Life and teachings of Buddha, Buddhist worship.

Beginnings and Endings, Life as a Journey: birth, coming of age, death and beyond.

Our World. GCSE Short Course WJEC: What makes us human?, How did everything come into being? and How should we care for the planet?

The Sikh holy book is the Guru Granth Sahib and is written in Punjab. Here students meet the Granthi, a holy man who is reading the Sikh holy book
